Virtual Center of Excellence Program
Allow us to help you reclaim your life from Fibromyalgia
"For the Fibromyalgia Care Society of America, the pandemic resulted in the perfect storm as it proved to us that we could work differently. By bringing virtual coordinated care to people living with fibromyalgia, we are bringing disability justice to the homes of many who find themselves home bound due to the pain, fatigue and isolation caused by this nervous system disorder," "More importantly, we are delivering services and compassion to a community with unmet needs."~ Milly Velez, FCSA Founder, Executive Director and Person Living with Fibromyalgia
On March 15th, 2022 The Fibromyalgia Care Society of America, Inc received a $25.000 one-year award from the Health Care Foundation of New Jersey to pilot a virtual coordinated care program for people living with fibromyalgia in Essex County.

Doctors believe the central nervous system (CNS)—your brain and spinal cord—plays a key role in fibro. They suspect that when you have the condition, your CNS amplifies your perception of pain. This is called central sensitization.
There are lots of small ways to find your chill, and it all ties back to finding ways to calm our impaired nervous system. Through our Virtual Coordinated Care program, we teach, learn and share modalities that help manage fibromyalgia. This is one of the ways we take an individual multifaceted approach to care and begin to support each other in reclaiming our lives.
How does it work? The parasympathetic nervous system (part of the brain that controls our ability to relax) is always working, attempting to keep us in a comfortable, relaxed state. But it also must negotiate with our sympathetic nervous system (the fight or flight system), some studies have shown a correlation between SNS and fibromyalgia pain levels.
The problem is that with fibromyalgia, the sympathetic nervous system is activated too much and the parasympathetic system can’t do its job effectively.
The solution: To calm our nervous system, we must take an individual multifaceted approach to effectively lower and manage symptoms for a better quality of life. This is a difficult task and can take lots of trial and error, the good news is that through the FCSA’s virtual coordinated care program, your assigned Team helps you identify what works best for you.
